I produced a mountain of notes on Stockport County both at the end of 19/20 and last season , highlighting the huge ambition and investment at the club and seven year plan to bring Championship football back to Edgeley Park, that might have seemed unlikely as they were still tier 6 in 2019, but they are now on the cusp of a return to the Football League sitting top of the National and it will be all guns blazing to get promotion secured ASAP. My notes are reproduced at the foot of this email and are worthwhile reading, not just to look back, or for today, but to remind us to keep an eye on County in the coming years.

 

They have another new head coach now in former player Dave Challinor, he has had five promotions as head coach, including taking Hartlepool back to the FL last season,  his record there was 25-10-11 and he is 17-2-1 at County since taking charge. This is a massive club at NL level, they had a crowd 7,453 at their home game on Saturday (5th tier remember ), one of 10,000 + recently and the Hatters would be a great addition to the EFL.

 

Kings Lynn Town are batting well above average to pay at this level, but this, their second season, sees highly likely to be their last, they are 10 points from safety and 52 points behind County , which is a massive 1.58 pg. They have lost 12/16 home starts and all three h2h games with County by a combined 13-0 , including 5-0 in Stockport early in the season, KLT are 0-1-10 versus top 7 teams, failing to score in six and giving up an average of 2.64 goals pg. This is a league where unlike others, a little experience is vital, the five youngest squads are all bottom 7, including the bottom 4 , KLT (22nd) and Dover (23rd) have the two youngest by a very long way.
