J-League 1:
Goals have fallen slightly compared to this stage last season and home wins by almost 10% and you can pretty much take that 10% and put it on the draws which are currently running at the highest number I can recall (circa 36%). That will almost certainly balance out , it invariably does, but is something we should be aware of for the time being.
Avispa Fukuoka - Urawa Reds
Only one goal in five starts for Avispa , but it did enable them to beat Marinos here. Their numbers have been pretty good this season and since promotion they have a 12-8-7 home record, conceding just 21 goals and it is hard work grinding out (as that is what it entails) a result here . Urawa are coming off a 2-0 defeat at Cerezo Osaka on Wednesday ahead of which I highlighted some issues for them .............
It has been a while since Urawa competed for top 4 and they have finished 14-10-6 in the last three seasons, but are back in the CL this season and that is always a distraction domestically and priority for them as they almost always do well in the international competition. They have been drawing a lot of games (see table above) , but have posted just two wins and lost on their last four visits to Osaka to play Cerezo and they have not led at any time in their last five starts and surely good value with the home side .
I have spoken of too many draws before, they win you nothing in modern football and five games unbeaten when they are all draws , immediately becomes six without a win when you lose and a run which is suddenly hard to address. Avispa won this fixture 2-0 last season and Urawa cannot be trusted at present and are at a bit of a low moment.
