Samples of today's clubgowi write ups ......
Aug 17, 2024
I have previewed 13 games taking place today over recent days and you can read three below, which were written and sent to subscribers either on Wednesday, Thursday or earlier this morning.
Japan J-League 1: Kawasaki Frontale- Yokohama F.Marinos
Lots of notes on Marinos recently in my notes and we have done well with them, including three winning bets when they played Consadole and a win away to Machida Zelvia and we know they are better than 9th place. They have finished 2-1-2 in the last three seasons and a run to the Champions League final this season distracted them and came at a cost domestically. They are coming off a 2-1 home defeat to defending champions Vissel Kobe and were second best in that and maybe that has now stalled their run, a win would have given them real momentum and a chance for top 3. Having said that, it is a bit early to give up just yet , with 36 points still up for grabs and the same applies to the hosts who are just a point further back and they are also on the rise and another "former" great J-League team.
Frontale have finished 1-1-4-1-1-2-8 in the last seven seasons, but even that doesn't do them justice, across 2020-21 they set record points totals both seasons and averaged 2.35 goals and 2.43 points through 72 games and totally dominated the league. They won just 2 of their first 10 starts this season, but have played at 6th place level subsequently and have won their last three scoring 9 goals , three in each and that included a 3-0 defeat of Vissel Kobe in their most recent home game, although their opponents did finish with 9 men. The last 8 h2h meetings here in Kawasaki have averaged 3.375 goals and there were usually titles on the line for one or both teams, now, with surely a three points or bust approach as they are playing major catch up, it should be more of the same. Marinos are third overall for xP and second for xGF on the road, Frontale have the 4th worst home xGA.
Marinos to score 2+ goals appeals too, but I will go with ......2 units Yokohama F.Marinos level ball 2.39 asian line.
German Super Cup: Bayer Leverkusen- VfB Stuttgart
I am not spending too long on this. I would not normally look at a "Super Cup" game, but these are the two Bundesliga teams I championed last season and who served us so very well. This will be the third h2h meeting in the Bay Arena this year with Leverkusen winning 3-2 in the DFB-Pokal and the two sharing four goals in the league meeting in April, ahead of which I wrote ..........
A clash between the two success stories of this Bundesliga season, the European season for that matter in the case of Leverkusen. We have discussed both teams so much I am not going to bother again, you know where we stand with them and both will play openly and to win the game. The title is won, but Bayer want that unbeaten Bundesliga season and the treble, but will have one eye on their trip to Roma in midweek. Stuttgart should be certain of that Champions League spot with five places most likely up for grabs, but having been top 3 pretty much all season you would think they would like third place as a minimum. They were a bit of a no show at Werder Bremen last week, but had taken 29 points from the 11 games played prior to that. They have also scored 13 goals in their last six on the road and were unfortunate losers here in the BayArena in February in the DFB-Pokal where I concluded my notes with .....
I expect both teams to be up for this, but maybe Stuttgart want it a little more as they are not going to win the title and they have no European distractions unlike Leverkusen and Bayer also have the small matter of hosting Bayern on Saturday and that has to take priority. The two met in Stuttgart in December and it was a wide open contest, it finished 1-1 but it could easily have been 3-3 and it produced 40 attempts on goal, 26 ITB, 17 on target, with 14 saves and plenty of missed BC's. Stuttgart were the better team that day and will be buoyed by 8 goals and very impressive performances in their last two starts and as a minimum they can have some offensive joy today.
I went with Stuttgart to score twice at big odds and they led 2-1 early in the second half, with Bayer scoring in added time to win 3-2.
Stuttgart have lost on their last six visits, but have scored twice in 3 of the last 4 and that again has value and Leverkusen will not mind winning 3-2 again or even, I suspect, drawing 2-2 (correct!), it is more about preserving that unbeaten record and going to the Eternal City in good shape. In addition, of all Bundesliga teams, Stuttgart also seem to match up quite well with the new champions, or at least, better than anyone else does!
We are two from two with Stuttgart to score twice at big odds in these games and those that know me, will be all too aware that going to the same well thrice, is never too much! Especially looking for goals in a "friendly" game, which this kind of is.
Stuttgart have sold Serhou Guirassy, but have made the loan signing of Deniz Undav permanent and added Ermedin Demirovic who scored 15 goals and created 10 assists in an Augsburg team who only scored 50 total, now he joins one who scored 78 .
2.5 units VfB Stuttgart to score "over" 1.5 goals @ 2.93 asian line.
Premier League 2024/25
Obviously, all these EPL write ups are based around my team by team notes which were reproduced in full last Friday (August 9) and sent to all subscribers and subsequent sign ups.
Arsenal- Wolverhampton Wanderers
Arsenal are my title pick and they or I are not going to be very happy with anything less than 3 points today. They have won 21/27 games at the Emirates, but have also conceded in 21/30, including in a 2-1 win over Wolves in December and in their first four home games of last season. Wolves have big issues, especially defensively .....
They have sold star defender Max Kilman to West Ham, who should really be a direct rival, or a club that Wolves are at least attempting to emulate and star player Pedro Neto seems sure to depart and is on the wish list and rightly so, of many top clubs. They have spent half the Kilman money on three signings, but nothing to really set the pulse racing and the Neto contribution towards a goal every 138 minutes played, in a low scoring team will be tough to replace. Likewise in defence, where Kilman and Craig Dawson made a combined 76 blocks (both in the top 5 in the EPL), Kilman has gone and Dawson is 34yo now and has only been able to average 21 appearances across the last five seasons. Kilman was also #3 in the EPL for headed clearances.
Neto has now joined Chelsea who have two squads worth of players and need at least three full time goalkeeping coaches, for their 8-9-10 (I have lost count) keepers! Neto and Kilman have not been replaced. The CB played every minute of all bar two games in the last two seasons, one of which was a 5-0 loss here at the Emirates, Neto did not feature in that either. I favour another big scoring day for the Gunners, but with Wolves probably scoring a single goal 4-1/5-1.
2.5 units Arsenal "over" 2.5 goals 1.917 asian line.
1.25 units Arsenal to win and both teams to score @ 3.07 asian line.
Good luck!
