This has been a "lucky" competition for me for me in recent years and I have turned a good profit, with three outright bets at very big odds, Zenit 20-1 and Benfica twice at 28-1 and 11-1, Zenit won, Benfica were robbed in two finals, which is why I wrote "lucky" thus. We made money on Benfica both years anyway, so I guess I could have written lucky !

Anyway the competition is much changed with the additional prize of a Champions League spot and with six of the last seven finals having been very, tight, close, hard fought affairs, it is easy to see that being even more of the case now, espcially when like today, we have two big teams who will otherwise be missing out on the biggest club competition in the world ..............

Europa League Final: Liverpool-Sevilla

These two are battling not just for the Europa League, but , arguably more importantly, a Champions League spot for next season. It is the only way these two well matched teams are going to get into the premium club competition and they will both be straining every sinew to get there. Seviilla are looking to win the competition for the third straight year and fifth time overall, Liverpool are looking for a 4th UEFC Cup/Europa League and the pair are a perfect 7/7 between them in finals, something, somewhere will have to give, but I feel the most likely outcome is that it will happen at the end of a tight encounter and long evening. Sevilla always seem to find a way through, they were outplayed by Benfica in the 2014 final and trailed to Dnipro last year and Liverpool are built of similar stuff, witness the come from behind wins over Dortmund and Villarreal. Both are tough, resilient and battle hardened and I do not feel they will be separated over 90 minutes . Three of the last seven finals have gone to extra time, three others were decided by a single goal, two of them late ( one in the 94th minute), so a lot of close games and now that the prize is so great, the incentive and/ or fear of losing is hugely increased and if we get to the 70 minute mark all square, it would take a brave team to then gamble.

Not my normal style of notes, but there is not too much to write, they are both well matched and are proven european competitors /winners and they are playing for a dream ticket to an event which has otherwise closed it's doors for entry.
