Wolves grabbed their first win of the season at Goodison Park last week thanks to some woeful finishing from the Toffees and a player of the round performance from Jose Sa(ve) in the visitors goal who made 6-7 big saves. In the preseason I had written ...........
 
Wolves are in a mess and you can basically read Leicester City 22/23 preseason for their position, except they do not have so far to fall and have already sold a number of players.  Ruben Neves, Nathan Collins, Raul Jemenez and Conor Coady have been sold, Joao Moutinho, Diego Costa and Adama Traore have also departed on free transfers, all to cut costs, but they are still struggling with FFP rules and head coach Julen Lopetegui is getting desperate. His original wish list was waved away and promises made prior to his arrival not kept, not only has a cut price list of additions also been refused, but he said yesterday that he now believes that further players might be sold  .
 
They finished 13th last season, but were 19th for xP and bottom for both xGF and actual goals scored, managing just 31 last season and the scorers of nine of those and six assists are now departed. Not a good time to be part of the Molineux faithful.

Julen Lopetegui was given a way out of Wolverhampton Wanderers this week and he snatched it with both hands, leaving by the old "mutual consent", original budget promises made were not kept and then new ones made were also broken and he wanted to leave, but not without a payoff of some sort. He played a large part in keeping the club in the EPL and is a talented head coach, who will not be out of work for too long. He has been replaced by Gary O'Neill who did a similarly good job at Bournemouth, but was deemed surplus to requirements by the Cherries and he is delighted with this chance to prove himself once more and it is hard not to wish him well. However, he inherited a much weaker squad than Lopetegui had at his disposal last season and the Saniard wanted to strengthen the group he had, not significantly weaken it and his thinking was that the squad as it stands, would struggle to survive and I guess he didn't want that on his CV. O'Neill knew the Bournemouth players well having been at the club for three years (assistant previously) and felt comfortable in the surroundings ,he has never coached anywhere else and has had only 3-4 days with his new team before making a daunting trip to Old Trafford.
 
It looks like Matheus Nunes has now also been sold and if Wolves play like they did at Everton, they will lose this comfortably. I was quite impressed by Palace at Brentford last week, they are very tight defensively and have four "proper defenders" as I explained ahead of that game, they were well organised and set up (the minimum you always get from Roy Hodgson  teams...pictured) and the players looked fit, athletic and with a lot of pace. They are not going to score a lot of goals, but are looking for a 4th straight home win over Wolves and this is the weakest the visitors have been in that sequence and Palace, maybe as strong, or possibly better.
