Briefly, Hull City are greatly improved under head coach Marco Silva, but we have discussed their lack of depth many times and today they will be without Sam Clucas and Evandro in midfield and with Ryan Mason out long term, that leaves the Tigers short in midfield. Curtis Davies and Michael Dawson again miss out in central defence, City have done ok defensively in their absence, but with those limited options in front of the backline, it might be a slightly different story today. Clucas has been ever present this season, but played 20 minutes or less in six games in Hull's Championship promotion winning last season, through which they won just two (33%) both against struggling teams (one who was relegated) and conceded at the rate of 1.67 goals per game, in the other 40 games, they won 55% and allowed just 0.625 goals.
The Clarets have a much talked about and dire 0-1-10 road record, but what is not often mentioned is that they have still to visit six of the bottom seven and have had a very lopsided away schedule, playing 8 of the top 11, including 5 of the top 6. Of course, that is still not a poor return , but they are better than that record indicates, did get that point at Old Trafford and they have taken Manchester City and Arsenal close in 2017, only losing at the Emirates to a 99th minute goal. They won a Championship high 11 times on the road last season and are a much better away team, although I accept that is not difficult, than their current record indicates. Burnley have won on 5 of their last 6 visits to Hull and I smell a first away victory of this campaign.
