clubgowi tweets for today's action...
#1 This will be Swansea's 12th start in the last six weeks, which is even more daunting when you note that in that sequence they will have played Tottenham, Manchester United, Arsenal (twice), Everton and Chelsea (twice). I do not feel they have the resources for that and it is going to catch them out somewhere down the line, if not tonight, then at some stage soon.
#2 Everton, Arsenal, Norwich City, Reading , Sunderland and Aston Villa have all come to the Liberty Stadium and not only avoided defeat, but more importantly for Chelsea, all scored two or more goals and four of those teams have not exactly been prolific on the road.
#3 Second round of matches starts today in the African Cup of Nations and we should start to see more open contests. Not only will teams be over the "fear of losing the first match" syndrome, but legs will start to get tired through the second and third group games.
#4 South Africa -Cape Verde was a bore fest, but the tiny Island nation did little wrong and playing in front of a massive crowd and at altitude, performed much better than expected.
#5 The second match between Morocco and Angola was much brighter, but still ended 0-0, the North African side started strongly and should have taken the lead, but were on the back foot for much of the second half and were fortunate to avoid defeat. I thought they tired and we should see better from them down at sea level in Durban and also with playmaker Younes Belhanda in from the start.
#6 Li Na won in straight sets to set up this semi-final with Masha and with Serena out of the other side of the draw, both will see it as a fantastic opportunity to win another grand slam title.
#7 The Russian leads 8-4 lifetime and is a perfect 5-0 on hardcourts, all in straight sets, with Li Na never having won more than four games in any set, last of these was in Beijing at the end of 2012. I should say that three came a long time ago and before Li Na really made her breakthrough, however, worrying stats.
#8 I think Li Na is in much better condition, both mentally and physically. Coach Carlos Rodriguez, who looked after Justine Henin for 15 years, has been working with her for some time now and knows how to nurture a champion.
Good Luck.
