Australian Open Tennis: Serena Williams- Agnieszka Radwanska
Here we have a mini Serena -Masha match up, in as much as Williams has been as dominant against Agnie as versus the Russian superstar, which we discussed on Monday ...........
That is 17 straight h2h wins for Serena, 11 of the last 12 have come in straight sets and in those 11 wins, 22 sets, Masha only won more than four games on two occasions. Williams has not only got inside Sharapova's head, she has moved in and set up house and she just "owns" the Russian superstar. I did think that the US player would struggle this fortnight , but there has been no sign of it so far and Masha needed to be not only at her best and ride her luck, but to serve 21 aces to get past Belinda Benic in R4. She has not served that many aces in her last 12 matches with Williams combined and there is absolutely no chance of that happening again.
Williams 2-0 in sets, or -4.5 in games are both options , but are priced at sub 1.86 and therefore,do not appeal to me, but under 21 games @ 1.95 looks overpriced and also allows for the miracle happening and Sharapova breaking her duck, if that was to happen, I suspect it would be a "big win", with Serena having an off day, I just cannot see Masha winning a close one.
Serena won that 6-4 6-1 and will now be looking to put this match to bed in similar fashion. She leads Radwanska 8-0, 16-1 in sets, losing that single set on grass. Of the 16 sets she has won, Williams has dropped four games in only four, so has won 75% for the loss of 0 (2), 1 (3), 2 (5) or 3 (2) games. It is just over two years since the last of those, but it would take a huge performance from the Polish player to turn this around, this is only her second semi final at any grand slam event apart from Wimbledon in 29 attempts and she was humiliated on the previous occasion, losing 1 & 2 to Dominika Cibulkova here in 2014, a match where she was a very strong pre match favourite. It seems to me that she has an awful lot of slam and h2h baggage to carry into this match and I have to favour Williams the younger to win this comfortably.
1.5 units Serena Williams -5.5 games 1.95 Pinnacle Sports/Sportmarket Pro.
Serena is marginally the taller of the two and whilst her record is good against almost every size and type of opponent, she is 27-1 against shorter players in the last 15 months.
Good Luck.
